Whisky Live 2018

Each year, Whisky lovers – novices and connoisseurs alike, gather in solidarity for their love of this golden nectar at the annual Whisky Live Celebrations. This past weekend kicked off the Whisky Live Celebrations in Cape Town at The Lookout. Whisky lovers from all over the Cape gathered to sample a wide range of Whiskies from Scottish Single Malt or a Blend, American or Irish Whiskey, Taiwanese and even local and proudly South African whisky…

What was New?
This year welcomed four newcomers to the Cape Town event. Hailing from Taiwan, Kavalan returns after a two year hiatus with its youthful and full flavoured single malts. The Quiet Man was brand new to the Celebration: Triple distilled in traditional Irish whiskey pot stills and matured in oak barrels, this whiskey offers an ultra-smooth finish.

Malts of Speyside
Speyside, the most densely populated whisky region in the world, is the centre for whisky in Scotland. Scotch from Speyside is considered Scotland’s most complex; and is known for its sweetness, elegant flavours and aromas. Attendees were able to taste the rich and sweet notes of The Macallan, or the light and grassy flavours of The Glenlivet and the fruity flavour of Aultmore, Aberlour and Glen Grant.

Crafty Cocktails
All guests received a delicious complimentary cocktail from Consol who was the glass sponsor for the night and hosted a cute pop-up whisky-inspired kegtail bar.

VIP | Bespoke lounge offering
There was also a VIP offering with a bespoke premium lounge, a private registration desk, dedicated hostess, a private bar stocked with premium whisky, local beers, wine, soft drinks, bottled water and food to delight the palate – a treat for all those serious whisky drinkers.

If you’re sad you missed out then not to worry as the Joburg event is coming up later this year. Be sure to keep an eye out on their social media for more.
