As more and more consumers are embracing their natural hair and walking away from harsh hair treatments, it is presenting opportunities for natural brands to enter the market.
Catherine Williams (Owner of My Natural Hair) started her hair journey like so many other young African women; being traumatized through time-consuming processes which included painful brushing, chemical laden relaxants and socially “redefined” norms. Over time Catherine became increasingly dissatisfied with the lack of products that enhance natural hair & stepped out in her own entrepreneurial pursuits.
My Natural Hair is free of any sulphates, parabens, phthalates, mineral oil and petroleum. Instead the products are infused with natural goodness. The nourishing shampoo, hydrating conditioner and a hair strengthening oil contain jojoba, coconut, sweet almond, grape seed, castor, olive, avocado and sunflower oil as well as shea butter. Each product is balanced & gentle, resulting in healthier looking hair. It’s an authentically natural solution that epitomizes strong values & an important emotional connection with its consumers.
As women of color, we have historically allowed the very loose use of the term “beautiful” in our hair description terms, suggesting that extensions, wigs and straighteners are desirable. Our message is that it’s ok to go “natural”, breaking through the standard view on beauty while harnessing women’s right to be unapogetically themselves”, encourages Catherine.
I had the lovely opportunity to meet Catherine at the My Natural Hair event and received a goodie bag with a few products from the range. What I absolutely love about the brand is that it embraces natural beauty. All the products are sulphate free and free of harsh chemicals and the leave in products are light weight and don’t make your hair look oily (someone say hallelujah).
If you’re looking to rock your natural curls, I’d definitly say give the range a try, it super affordable. My Natural Hair products are available at select Clicks stores nationwide, Jetmart stores nationwide, Africa Cash and Carry wholesalers, Takealot.com as well as My Natural Hair’s ecommerce site at www.mynatural.co.za.
