Cape Town’s premier hotel, The Table Bay, is renowned for being on trend. So it’s no surprise that the drink trend of the year, gin, is taking centre stage.
A Bombay Sapphire gin bar opened mid December 2015, and will remain open for the festive holiday period. I got an opportunity to enjoy a few delicious cocktails at the gin bar and can definitely say that it’s a hot spot for summer time sun downers.
Mixologist at The Table Bay, Heinrich La Meyer has a few tantalizing cocktails on the menu, including Sapphire Martini, a delectable combination of Bombay Sapphire, triple sec, fresh lime and sugar syrup, served in a chilled cocktail glass and finished off with a twist of lime. His other specialties are a refreshing summery cucumber martini, a colourful watermelon Collins and a subtly delicious Elderflower martini. But the man known for his cocktail mixing skills says his favourite remains an old fashioned gin and tonic.
The Bombay Sapphire gin bar will run until 13 January 2016 and what better way to end a long day in the fairest Cape, than with a gin cocktail in a luxurious setting? “When you’re working with the best gin, Bombay Sapphire, you can’t go wrong. Just about any combination is going to work,” says Heinrich.
